“The Glow Getter”
My first encounter with propolis was a funky smelling little bottle my mum bought at a Korean health food store. Honestly, I was turned off by the strong smell that made me cringe all those years ago and I was quite wary of trying this LJH ampoule at first. Boy, was I wrong! This light golden liquid really impressed me. it was fragrance free – no funky propolis smell at all! Plus, it’s not sticky or oily.
Did you know that honey isn’t the only thing bees make? They also produce a super hero beauty ingredient, propolis. Bees use propolis to form a shield in their honey panels as a barrier against bacteria and invaders. When used in skincare, propolis also forms a protective barrier exactly like how the bees use them, calms inflammation and irritation, and protect against bacteria and acne.
This ampoule is made by LJH Dermatology and has earned itself a cult status among beauty editors, bloggers and real Korean women.
Ampoules have a thicker consistency than essences and serum and with a more potent concentration of ingredients specifically designed to combat the signs of aging, fade brown spots, fine lines and brighten dullness. They often come in small glass bottles with droppers, so you can control the amount you want to use.
A few tips:
• You don’t have to use an ampoule ALL over your face. Ampoules are concentrated and can be spot applied on areas you want to target the treatment. See how your skin condition is and apply them appropriately.
• Be patient. It takes about a month to see real results from skin treating ampoules, serums, and essences. Typically, your skin needs a four-week adjustment period, although some see results earlier.
Here are 5 simple steps to use this skincare super boosting ampoule. Please watch the video below to follow the 5 steps.
1 Use it alone as a serum alternative.
Ampoules allow a deeper penetration into the dermal layer and deliver a more potent dose of skin beneficial ingredients. Use 1~2 drops of ampoule after cleansing and toning as part of your skin treatment step or as an alternative to a serum. Gently pat in and follow with your moisturiser to seal in all the goodness.
2 Add a few drops to your moisturiser
This light golden ampoule mixes easily into heavy creams and makes them more spreadable. Add a few drops into your moisturiser, blend well and gently pat it in. It will impart a healthy glow and boost the effects of your cream.
3 Blend it into your foundation
Jenny and I interviewed dermatologists at the LJH Clinic in Gangnam, and they said this ampoule was designed to blend in with your makeup like liquid foundation and BB/CC creams without splitting or reducing the coverage. Foundations can be quite drying and often leaves a dry “cakey” look throughout the day. Adding a drop or two of ampoule to your foundation boost instant hydration. Korean actresses have used this beauty secret to bring subtle shimmer rather than using more visible highlighters! Now the secret is out and dewy soft “gwang” (luminescent glow in Korean) is yours too~
4 Add a drop or two to your compact cushion
We travel to Seoul on Korean Air often and noticed the perfect skin of the gorgeous flight attendants. I asked how do they keep their skin so fresh especially on long haul international flights. They said hydration is the key. Drink water frequently and add two drops of ampouleor serums to their cushion compacts. It calms flaky white areas around the nose and mouth and leaves skin with a soft glow. Yes to soft glowing skin!
5 Blend it into tinted sun cream/moisturiser
The Australian harsh sun can cause real damage to your skin and sun cream is a non-negotiator for many of us. A drop of an ampoule blended into my sun cream leaves my skin comfortably smooth and hydrated without any oiliness or stickiness. “Slip, Slop and Slap” with hydration!
